19th Century Boxwood and Ebonized Base Tea Caddy, English, circa 1820

19th century boxwood and ebonized base tea caddy in the form of a flower with a dome glass panel which holds a small bouquet of dried flowers. The interior is all original with remnants of a lead lining date circa 1820.

This highly decorative piece is in excellent condition and a rare subject depicting bags & light luggage from the mid -20th century. There is also an image showing the limited addition signature.

 

Born in 1913, Piero Fornasetti was a Milanese painter, sculptor, interior decorator, engraver, and the creator of more than 11,000 objects. Working across media, especially ceramics and textiles, he became an expert in a variety of printing techniques, and, with the help of friend and collaborator Gio Ponti, established his legendary, eponymous brand aimed at bringing art into everyday life.
