Rare Large Mid-Century Zsolnay Porcelain Figure by János Török Circa 1960s

This striking abstract figure is an excellent example of Zsolnay’s post-war modernist output and is especially notable for its rich red eosin glaze, a far less common finish than the more familiar green-gold iridescence.

The deep ruby metallic tones shift subtly in the light, giving the piece a strong sculptural presence.

Unlike the smaller versions encountered on the market, this is a substantial example, measuring 9 inches wide and 7.5 inches high, lending it far greater visual impact and collectability.

The piece remains in very good condition and retains its Zsolnay factory mark on the base, confirming its authenticity.

The flowing, pierced abstract form reflects the influence of mid-century biomorphism and the broader sculptural style explored by Henry Moore..

Designer Note

János Török (1932–1996) joined the Zsolnay Factory in Pécs in 1956 and soon became one of its most influential mid-century designers. From the late 1950s onward, he created a signature series of modernist figurines.

His works remain instantly recognisable and are highly sought after by collectors of European modernist ceramics.
