Modernist Mid-20th Century Zsolnay Eosin Crackle Vase Hungary c1960
A distinctive modernist Zsolnay vase designed by Gabriella Törzsök, one of the manufactory’s notable mid-20th century ceramic modellers.
Törzsök’s work is recognised for its refined forms and her confident use of Zsolnay’s celebrated eosin glaze, here presented in a striking red & gold finish.
This example features her characteristic crackle or “reptile-skin” surface texture, a decorative effect she explored during the 1950s-1960s.
The glaze displays the rich iridescence typical of Zsolnay’s eosin production, shifting between tones of ruby, amber, and metallic gold depending on the light.
A well-proportioned sculptural form, it stands as an excellent example of Törzsök’s contribution to Zsolnay’s modernist output.
The piece is in very good condition and retains its factory mark to the base.
Designer Note:
Gabriella Törzsök worked as a ceramic designer and modeller at the Zsolnay Porcelain Manufactory in Pécs during the mid-20th century. Her documented works include decorative vases and jugs featuring bold eosin glazes and textured surfaces. Pieces attributed to her are relatively scarce, and her crackle-glazed eosin designs are increasingly sought after by collectors of modern Hungarian ceramics.
