Rare Large Mid-Century Zsolnay Porcelain Figure by János Török Circa 1960s

A striking and rare large-scale Zsolnay modernist porcelain figure, designed by the acclaimed Hungarian sculptor János Török.

This sculptural form is emblematic of mid-20th-century modernism, echoing the organic abstraction of the human figure explored by artists such as Henry Moore.

This version, standing an impressive 11 inches (28 cm) in height, is notably larger and far more impressive and sought after than the miniature versions that are more readily available.

The piece is finished in Zsolnay’s celebrated mellow translucent eosin glaze, a lustrous metallic surface that shifts elegantly between greens, golds, and blues. It remains in excellent condition, with crisp modelling and no restoration.

The underside bears the Zsolnay Pécs factory mark, confirming its authenticity and mid-century manufacture.

Designer Note

János Török (1932–1996) was a leading ceramic artist at the Zsolnay Factory in Pécs, joining in 1956.

From the late 1950s onward he developed a series of distinctive modernist and abstract figurines.

His work is instantly recognisable for its sculptural clarity, refined abstraction, and timeless silhouettes.
