An Antique Table Cigar Lighter in the form of a Dragon. Date Circa 1910, Origin England

Very rare antique  table lighter in the form of a dragon with antelope horn for its body and tail. This style of cigar lighter, typically made for a military mess table, was almost always made in silver-plate one of the main makers were silversmiths Walker & Hall The head has a turning motion which allows it be turned towards seated person on either side of a dining, or occasional table.The body has a tamper stick inserted in the upper body in the form of a arrow & also a snuffer on a chain as shown. One of the dragon's feet is resting on a flaming grenade, a reference to its military origin this example is in excellent condition.Victorian lighters were designed with a wick that burned continuously after the meal and from which the gentlemen would light their cigars.
